Can AI Write a Story? asks Pixie Van Dimple

Pixie Van Dimple has been very curious about artificial intelligence since her terrifying experience having been infiltrated by AI bugs and nearly transformed into a clone! The rest of us need not get too relaxed either as technology is developing at such a fast rate that it is not impossible to imagine that this could actually happen in the future! With the research and development going on behind closed doors and complex machine learning and AI looking to outpace mankind, we can expect to be chipped (yes really!) – a superhuman race may well emerge having been given brain implants and undergone genome sequencing! Not so science fiction, but just science and technology (keep up kids!).

Anyway, talking of AI, we are looking at AI Writers… and asking the question, can AI actually write a story? If you were writing a story, what would the ingredients be (the filters and instructions, where when, who etc -think searching the whole internet) ?

As a demonstration of what can be done, I have posted the image above, which is an example of AI writing about a dog, who is having, quite frankly a very bad day!

The story is very funny because it is really short and rather blunt and abrupt. And devastating for the poor dog!

Pixie wants you to think about this story and have a go at rewriting it to make it more entertaining and readable – for example, where is the beginning, middle and end? and where is the build up of the drama and do we know anything else about the dog or anyone else in the story?

I would like to thank Vlad for giving permission for me to share this story he created using Jarvis AI writer. It was a first attempt and was missing some ingredients! We love it because it is like an experiment using a very powerful tool. We laugh at predictive text when we are texting as it is sometimes so silly, and this is similar but we put in parameters and filters…

It’s all very mind blowing stuff but soooo interesting – Pixie loves all thing science and technology and is getting a bit distracted with space and the universe since I read bits of Stephen Hawkings’ book to her…..that’s a whole new conversation, but it is where it is all at and is definitely featuring in our future in a BIG way!

Email us your thoughts, and your stories and we will post them on our Guest Blog! We want to get the discussion going and your brains thinking critically kids – remember you got the power – and watch out for AI bugs!

Lots of love Lynn & Pixie Van Dimple XOXOXO
