Trixie Van Dimple’s Team Talk..

Have you heard about the out of this world plans for Manchester United’s football stadium?

It looks to be very impressive and will have a capacity of 100,000 – the largest crowd in the UK!! The current stadium is getting old and needs updating and the new plans will hopefully draw in more investment and more fans and create 92,000 new jobs! Yay!

Manchester United has always been a prominent Premier League club – remember the David Beckham days? Well yes I do! – actually I was a Liverpool FC fan when I was young – my parents lived in Liverpool before they were married and my maternal grandmother, Minnie, lived a stone’s throw from the Anfield Stadium. I was born in Billinge and we lived in Ashton in Makerfield. When I was 4 and my twin siblings were 2 we moved to Spalding in rural Lincolnshire. My parents had their Liverpool accents for quite a while before they started to speak like the locals. I heard the Liverpool anthem ‘You will never walk alone’ many times and it always reminds me of my dad.

Back to football, the beautiful game. Do you remember that Trixie, Pixie’s older sister, wanted to be a footballer? She is actually doing rather well – playing for a local youth club and really enjoying being part of the team, winning matches and trophies!

Trixie plays in midfield, like Jude Bellingham and Keira Walsh and wants to be as good as them! She knows that the only way to play well is to understand the role each of the players has within the team. How all the ‘set pieces’ are choreographed in a myriad of different ways – there is a lot of team talk about winning strategies and ‘listening’ to the team Coach at all times! No one is bigger than the Club and everyone is integral to the team! Wow! we are getting serious!

Suffice it to say that there is no way that the team will win if they do not communicate effectively with each other and be alert and anticipate each other’s moves and the moves of the opposing team – hone their skills, know the rules of the game and execute with excellence.

This can apply to any kind of team work – whatever or wherever that may be. Communication skills are everything – ‘listening’ is a skill that needs to be developed more and more in our ‘tech’ world – that and developing face to face relationships in and out of work and school.

How can you develop your team building skills?

How else can you be a valuable member of the team?

  • Remember to be respectful to your coach, your team members, other players, the fans, family, friends and people you meet in life, at all times, on and off the pitch
  • Remember to be reliable and dependable, consistent and dedicated but also humble – it really matters
  • Remember to meet challenges with resilience, hope and grace – you will sometimes have disappointments in life – sometimes you lose the match but win the game! Learn from mistakes and grow stronger in the knowledge that you are a better, more confident person having regrouped and come up with new strategies! You can do it! Keep telling yourself that!
  • Remember too that success is not immediate – put the work in and reap the rewards!

Pixie is so proud of her older sis – chasing her passions and having so much fun. We will let you know more about Trixie very soon.

Until the next time….

Lots of love ,

Lynn & Pixie – & Trixie
